VINTAGE MOVIE NIGHT

30 July

It’s the end of the first half of the Adelaide Cinémathèque 2009 season, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with an old fashioned vintage movie night including a cavalcade of newsreels, cartoons, comedy shorts and a classic feature too. Regular Adelaide Cinémathèque members can bring a guest for free and give them a sneak peek at what’s coming up on the program for the rest of the year.

AT THE CIRCUS

7:30pm Thursday 30 July

AT THE CIRCUS (G)

Dir: Edward Buzzell US 1939 87 mins 35mm
Hilarious Marx Brothers high jinks ensue when a wealthy young man, who has forsaken his rich aunt’s fortune to join the circus, is robbed of the money that will keep it in business. Chico and Harpo enlist the aid of ambulance-chasing lawyer J. Cheever Loophole, aka Groucho, who sings Lydia the Tattooed Lady and proceeds to torment poor Margaret Dumont yet again. Keep your eye on the ape.
