LIGHT YEARS AWAY (18+)

Dir: Alain Tanner
Switzerland/France 1981 105mins 35mm
Young drifter Jonas, goes to work for the elderly recluse Yoshka at his derelict petrol station in a remote region of Ireland. Frustrated with his absurd “apprenticeship”, Jonas is eventually initiated into Yoshka's mystical secret. This dream-like fable was a departure for the director who was known for his politically discursive works and involvement in the British Free Cinema movement. Print courtesy of the ACMI collection.
