Silent remaster:
Live Accompaniment to classic film

29 November

The Silent Remasters programme has been specifically created to foster the development of our local musicians looking to work in the film industry whilst putting on a mighty fine show that has been the highlight of the Adelaide Cinemathque in recent years. Presented with a newly composed, live score by an emerging SA musician, The Last Laugh will continue the Adelaide Cinemathque Silent Remasters tradition in 2010

7:30pm Monday 29 November

The Last Laugh (G)

DIR: F.W. MURNAU
GERMANY 1924 77mins 35mm
Major Geoffrey Moss, writer of Isn’t Life Wonderful, told us that he had one regret on leaving for England: he had not seen The Last Laugh one more time. A black comedy about a proud doorman whose life is turned upside down when he is demoted to bathroom attendant, this film is a marvel of expression, character and atmosphere. The Last Laugh was a true landmark film of its time, complete with all the cinematic wonder that Murnau is famous for.
