ADELAIDE PREMIERE
Mother (MA15+)

Dir: Joon-ho Bong
South Korea 2009 128mins 35mm
In his follow up to The Host, Korean director Boong Joon-Ho crafts a thriller in the classic tradition of Hitchcock, ratcheting up the unease all the way to it’s unexpected climax. When an intellectually challenged man is coerced into confessing to a murder he may not have committed, his devoted mother sets out to find the real killer. In a village of the petty and self-interested, nobody is as innocent as they seem. This darkly absurdist film beat out Thirst as South Korea’s official submission for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
