Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould(G)

Dir: Michele Hozer & Peter Raymont
2009 Canada 109mins 35mm
Glenn Gould, the mysterious and influential pianoist; an enigmatic muiscal poet. Twenty-six years after his early passing, he still continues to captivate audiences with his inimitable music and writings reveal an insightful worldview that we are still trying to unravel. This documentary pierces through the myths, revealing the man beneath the icon and reconstructs his thoughts on music, art, society, love and life with very rare archive footage with interviews of Gould's closest friends, plus never-before heard home recordings and excerpts from his private diaries. .

'...with as much previously unseen footage as possible. While the pic is far from perfect, the helmers certainly deliver a must-see film for serious music fans that should make beautiful music at the arthouse.' - John Anderson, Variety

'Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould scores a perfect 10 in two why-should-I-watch-this areas that are key to any documentary. It has a wealth of valuable footage (mixed with a few deft dramatizations), and it has "news value." - Jim Slotek, Sun Media
