The Mercury and Iris Cinemas are run by the Media Resource Centre to enhance screen culture and to give screening opportunities to emerging South Australian film, video and digital media artists.

The Chinese film industry has recently seen a massive transformation over the last decade that has placed it at the forefront of global cinema. The MRC is pleased to present a selection of stunning new Chinese cinema that spans the entire nation, showcasing its breadth of environmental and cultural diversity. An adoptive mother's love knows no bounds in this beautifully photographed and emotionally engaging drama set in the Yunnan province. A poor farmer is pressured by his family to marry the mentally and emotionally stunted Cherry, who spends most of her time chasing children and offering them the fruit that bears her name. Cherry carries a deep desire to have her own child and fate intervenes one day when finds an abandoned baby girl in the woods. But Cherry’s dream is not fulfilled without consequences.

Urtiin Duu is the traditional folk song and cornerstone of the Mongolian culture. A singer loses her voice under the weight of her own emotional turmoil following the death of her husband. Distraught she attempts suicide, but returning to her homeland from Beijing, her faith in life and nature is restored with the help of her family and a baby camel. Incredible photography captures the harsh but beautiful Mongolian landscape.

An Yu, a singer of Han nationality, becomes fascinated by the traditional Tibetan folk song Ganglamedo. She travels to the magical lake Namucuo in search of the voice behind the song that she hears in her dreams. Encountering local musician Ahzha on the way, together they discover the sixty year old mystery behind a vanishing bride who also bore the name Ganglamedo. Filled with sumptuous scenery, costume, music and dance.

Abandoned by his father at the age of two, a boy is returned to his mother several years later. Resentful, the boy resolves to leave his hometown for the city the moment he turns seventeen.
