Popcorn Taxi presents an evening with Hollywood filmmaker Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies, Air America, The Sixth Day,) who will discuss his epic feature film career to date with special emphasis on his work with Peckinpah during a talk with film journalist Paul Harris. The interview was recorded live in Sydney in May.
Roger Spottiswoode began as an Editor working on several of Director Sam Peckinpah's finest films including Straw Dogs (1971) and Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid (1973), as well as Karel Resiz's The Gambler (1974) and Walter Hill's Hard Times (The streetfighter).
He made his directorial debut with the genre thriller Terror Train (1980) and since has combined working in the Hollywood mainstream on films such as Under Fire (1983) , Turner And Hooch (1989), Air America (1990) and the Schwarzenegger blockbuster The Sixth Day (2000), with prestigious television drama including the Emmy-Award winner And The Band Played On (1993), Hiroshima (1995), Noriega : God's Favourite (2000) and Spinning Boris (2003).
Spottiswoode also wrote the buddy cop thriller 48 Hours (reworked by other hands after comic Eddie Murphy boarded the project) and acted as associate producer on the challenging Vietnam drama Who'll Stop The Rain? (1977)(d.Karel Reisz) .
In 1997 he boarded the James Bond franchise with Tomorrow Never Dies starring Pierce Brosnan. His latest feature The Children of Huang Shi, an Australian-German-Chinese co-production set during the Japanese Occupation of China in 1937, with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Radha Mitchell, Michelle Yeoh and Chow-Yun Fat , which is scheduled for release in December.
We will screen Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid after the conversation.

Megan is a dedicated documentary maker and well-respected national film critic. She has been film critic at Australia’s national ABC radio network triple j and reviewer for SBS’s The Movie Show. She has taught film studies to tertiary students. Lovestruck is her fourth major documentary.
Lovestruck will screen with a Q&A Session to follow.
