The finalists in the ReelDance Awards for new Australian and New Zealand dance on film. This selection of the best recent shorts by local performers, choreographers and filmmakers has been inspired by ancient architecture, the tensions between nature and technology, familial relationships, the mysteries of Eastern culture, the inner workings of the mind… and beef farming.

In this program of shorts celebrating the dancer next door, Russians celebrate swing styling, a Dutch boy spins across a field, Elvis’ spirit is summoned in the Preseli Hills of Wales, Coventry’s Kombat Breakers practice their moves, Hip hop erupts on the streets of Chennai and the quiet guy gets the girl. Includes the Oscar nominated short Tanghi Argentini.

INCLUDING DANCE ON FILM IN 3D!

Cinetic is a collection of the best recent dance and movement-based films made by South Australian artists. The program features work by both independent artists (Kelly Alexander, Lachlan Tetlow-Stuart, Felecia Hick and others), and established practitioners such as Leigh Warren, offering an eclectic blend of films ranging from contemporary movement drama through to experimental and documentary. One of the highlights will be a live cinema performance of 3xperimentia (Amanda Philips) featuring an audio backdrop created and edited in real time, and 3D visuals on the big screen. 3D glasses provided! Don’t miss your opportunity to see the latest and greatest of local dance film work!

DANCE FILM FORUM (DONATION ENTRY)

Titled Dancing with the Director, the forum examines the nature of cross-artform collaboration and presents strategies for new dance film projects to develop productively across both dance and film language. Speakers include the Reeldance Award winner Cordelia Beresford (Sydney), Sue Healey (Sydney), Tracie Mitchell (Melbourne) and a range of local dance filmmakers.
