YAKUZA LIFE: THE FILMS OF SEIJUN SUZUKI
Tues 29 Apr – Sat 3 May 2008
Presented by the Media Resource Centre and the Japan Australia Friendship Association to celebrate Golden Week in Japan.
Unknown to many in Australia, Seijun Suzuki (b. 1923) forged a long and successful career in Japan with a series of yakuza films made predominantly through the fifties and sixties. Suzuki’s unique style combines stark imagery, irreverent humour, nihilistic cool and a warped sense of logic. His influence on a whole new generation of filmmakers throughout the east and west is indisputable. Essential viewing for fans of Lone Wolf & Cub, Lady Snowblood and Hanzo the Razor.
